The Award
NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria (CRN NENC) aims to:
● Increase the volume of Investigator Initiated Commercially Funded Research Studies (IITs) taking place across the region.
MRC Confidence in Concept (CiC) call
Newcastle University are pleased to announce the opening of the latest call for MRC Confidence in Concept (CiC) project funding.
The funding is now integrated into the new institutional UKRI Impact Accelerator Award, but the objectives of the CiC scheme remain to provide support for proof of concept studies which will enable translational research and prepare projects to seek larger scale funding from schemes such as the MRC Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme (DPFS).

As in previous years the call has an Expression of Interest stage from which projects are selected for full submission. The EoI stage does not require formal costings but does need a clear indicative cost level within the funding bands £50k-£85k/£86k-£120k.

EoI submission deadline: 3rd March 2023
EoI Outcomes: 24th March 2023
Full Application submission deadline: 1st May 2023
Final Outcomes: 29th May 2023

IIT Awards – open for applications Monday 30th January 2023
The IIT Award scheme will be opened for applications on Monday (30th January).

There is a call opening today for NIHR Research Capability Funding 2023/2024.
NIHR RCF is a research funding stream designed to help research-active NHS organisations attract, develop and retain high quality research, clinical and support staff.

IIT Funding Awards 2022/2023 – Applications now open
Funding for the Investigator Initiated Commercially Funded Research Studies (IIT) Awards 2022/2023 is now open.
This £5000 award is to support applicants from the North East North Cumbria (NENC) to develop and lead on an Investigator Initiated Trial (IIT), as well as providing practical support to assist you in achieving Clinical Research Network (CRN) Portfolio status.
